So I dragged my sorry ass into downtown SF on a school night, all credit to James for cheerleading and to the Dresden Dolls web site for inserting (not so?) subtly addictive music into my brain.

The evening didn't exactly start out brilliantly. I had driven to work, packed a snack in lieu of dinner, and worked late rather than taking the time to stop at home. Due to an odd coincidence of timing, I didn't call James (the person with the tickets) to confirm our meeting time: I was going to call 15 minutes before I planned to leave the office, but then Eva called me, and when I was about to tell her I really needed to go, James called her, so I knew there was no point in calling because he was on the phone, and I just went and got into the car and started driving... and lo, when I arrived in SF he was still in SJ. So I spent a grumpy hour sitting in a hotel lobby reading and thinking "If he isn't here in an hour, I'm just going home. I could have been home with my cats this whole time..."

(For the record, if I had been in a neighborhood I knew better, I might have found something more interesting to do, but wandering around aimlessly in the vicinity of Van Ness & Geary didn't seem all so appealing.)

But the phone rang 59 minutes later and all was well.

The show was terrific (*must buy CDs immediately*) although the GAMH venue is exceedingly unfriendly to a not-so-tall person like myself. At one point, I did go snag a section of balcony at the top of the stairs for a couple of songs (the first two encores, to be precise) but otherwise I just caught glimpses of the duo; and they are clearly meant to be seen as well as heard.

The crowd was extremely entertaining in its own right: major goth outing, interspersed with full-tilt halloweenish costumes ranging from clown to winged demon. Oh, and did I mention the accordian player strolling the sidewalk outside, wearing a corset, panniers sans skirt, and not much else? Aside from all that, I actually got to talk to Jamie a bit, which has never really happened before, despite having been at the same table for several meals and so on.

The latter part of the evening did have one not-nice moment: during a rather loud, drum-filled interval, I found myself suddenly feeling extremely woozy, slightly nauseous, and seeing halos around all the people blocking my view of the stage -- alarming as well as unpleasant. After standing there for a moment holding my head and thinking "what is this? I only had two drinks, did somebody spike them? am I having a flashback? how am I going to drive home? shit!", I went out into the hallway and immediately started to feel better. After a moment, I headed upstairs and rinsed my face and drank some tap water, and was completely fine. Still don't know what happened, I can only guess that the pulses of sound just happened to be at a perfect level & frequency to mess with my brain. Or, it was a flashback, just a very short one :)

Anyway, going upstairs at that moment led to my getting to *see* the two songs, so it was all good. Pardon me, I need to go buy some CDs now...
