Things that are going through my head right now, stream of consciousness style:

The glögg was good. I mean, both the beverage and the gathering. I don't see enough of Fredrik, and lately not enough of Jen either. I like Dhea's Joe (and continue to feel vaguely surprised and pleased that he evidently likes me too). James makes a fine Young Santa. Swedish meatballs, yum. And so on.

Brain not extremely lively today. Logically enough. Glögg will do that to you.

I did have a lovely lie in, though. Two cats sprawled like inverted parentheses on either side of me. Until almost 9:30, whooo!

The dancing part didn't happen. Probably just as well considering the state of my knees, but it would have been nice to see folks.

I had replied "maybe" on an evite to a brunch party today: a person I know from Sun, located in Redwood City, with zero names I recognize on the guest list aside from the hostess. Woke up with no inclination whatsoever to go. On the one hand, I want to meet people. On the other hand, unless there is some context where I'm likely to run into them again, the chances I'm going to actually make new friends in this kind of situation is just about zip. And as we all know, at a party you never get to actually talk to the host.

Spent another half an hour poking on the internets for hair salon recommendations, called a couple, and learned the following stunningly obvious facts: 1) most hair salons are not open on Sunday AM, if open on Sunday at all, and 2) hair salons change their names, addresses, etc. far more frequently than the recommendation sites can keep up with, even if they try which they don't always. Therefore ended up trimming my own bangs again, check back later to see if I regret it.

I did manage yesterday to write out my overseas xmas cards. Not actually in the mail yet, but I should be able to accomplish that today, I think. I should also start decorating, not sure if I feel sufficiently inspired.

There's more, but I'm going to stop here. Yes, I know, I haven't explained my mood. Maybe later.

if you want hair salon recs, just tell me what you're looking for. i've shuttled through bunches of salons in the years i've been here. (oh, and feel free to say 'ummm, no.' :) )

Yes, recommendations would be great, thanks!

As for what I'm looking for: reasonably easy to get to (e.g., located near BART or with parking, and possible to get an appointment weekends or evenings); won't complain incessantly about the fact that I don't want to do anything interesting with my hair; understands the concept of just going in for a bang trim every other time (at one high-end salon I tried a while back, they seemed to think this was insulting). And, given that I'm not doing anything very interesting, reasonably priced would be nice.

That's really about it.

The last place I tried, the hair stylist seemed nice enough, but the elderly Asian woman at the reception desk stared at me with an air of great suspicion the whole time. So, bonus points for a welcoming atmosphere :)

ok. my top recommendation then would be peter thomas, on shattuck in berkeley. i found them to be really nice, and everyone i went to was quite good. priced in the 40-65 range, depending on who you get. i went to someone named tresca for a while (until she had a baby and started flaking on appointments) and she would do 'in-between' trims for free--i don't know if that's standard or not. i think they have a set 'bang-trim' price. there's parking, but if you get stuck in the metered parking on the street, they'll feed it for you.

second one would be bellissimo on college. i don't remember the price, but i didn't think it was bad. good products, super nice people. they were good at scheduling appointments whenever. parking is a bit wonky, since its college in rockridge, but i think it was near the bart station there.
