I have spent the past three+ hours trying and failing to get my laptop to see the wireless network. I am so frustrated, I am on the verge of tears.
Update: despite knowing that I had hit diminishing returns, I just spent most of *another* hour beating my head against this. Result: wireless access on the work laptop is working fine, wireless access on the personal laptop is non-existent although wired access is OK, I spent zero time this evening doing anything useful (e.g. unpacking) or pleasant (e.g. reading a book and petting the kitties), and I feel stupid and inadequate because I am supposed to be reasonably good at this stuff.

Sep. 16th, 2006 08:35 pmAfter the anticipated torturous conversation with tech support, he advises me to return the router and exchange it.
So I guess I'll be sitting at the dining room table to use the computer for a few days more.
I could have used that hour for so many other things...
And I was so proud of myself that I remembered to buy the wireless router last week... *sigh*

...being on hold for tech support because my nice shiny new wireless router doesn't.
Doesn't route without the wire, that is. And you know the tech support person will make me do over what I've already done, i.e. run the setup utility and then follow all the instructions under troubleshooting in the user's guide. All while talking to me like I'm an idiot, which I am about some things, but not so much about this kind of stuff, you know? That is, they will if they ever pick up the phone.
Bah.
